Adjunct Professor Hemal Mehta

Adjunct Professor Hemal Mehta is an ophthalmologist specialising in management of macula disease and cataract surgery. He has expertise in clinical trials and tracking real-world treatment outcomes.

Hemal is Co-director of Clinical Trials Research at Strathfield Retina Clinic and has served as PI or Sub-PI in over 50 clinical trials.

Hemal is on the Therapeutics Committee of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists and on the Editorial Board of the Journal Eye. He is a Clinical Associate Professor with the Faculty of Medicine and Health, University of Sydney and on the Steering Committee of the Fight Retinal Blindness project. The clinical research during his previous fellowships at Sydney Eye Hospital and Moorfields Eye Hospital contributed to his Doctorate of Medicine on ‘Novel endpoints in diabetic retinopathy clinical trials’ registered at Cambridge University. Hemal has over 70 peer-reviewed publications, H-index of 24 and over 3000 citations with an upwards trajectory.

Hemal is an Adjunct Professor at University of Notre Dame Australia, co-supervising PhD students working on the Sarks Archive to better understand the pathogenesis of age-related macular degeneration. Hemal has been involved in establishing national and international guidelines on management of cataract in patients with macular disease.
