Stephen recently retired as Chairman of the Silicon Quantum Computing Pty. Ltd. (SQC) the Australian government sponsored commercialisation vehicle of quantum technologies at UNSW, led by Michelle Simmons. Stephen oversaw 2 significant rounds of capital raising for SQC. Stephen has extensive experience in early stage biotech, having been a board member of the Centenary Institute’s Centre for Cancer Innovations at the University of Sydney and Chair of its commercialisation committee, under the directorship of Prof Tony Basten. He was a founder of and seed investor in Proteome Systems Pty Ltd and Regeneus Ltd, both deriving from Macquarie University research ( Prof Keith Williams) and listing on the ASX. Stephen was also a founder of Pavilion Health which developed hospital management and coding systems ( RISQ) and was subsequently vended into Beamtree Ltd ( ASX:BMT). Stephen has advised NSW Department of Health on various projects, including on the implementation of its innovation platform.

Acknowledged in his legal career as one of the leading securities lawyers in Australia, Stephen has recently retired as a Consultant in the Corporate Practice of Ashurst in Sydney. He was head of the Ashurst China practice until he retired from partnership in 2018 . He was a director of Platinum Asset Management Ltd from 2014 to 2022, and was previously a Director of several listed companies. He has been involved in various  community organisations, being Chair of the Australian Caption Centre and a director of AsiaLink and a founding Director of the Australian Institute of Asian Culture and Visual Arts (VisAsia).
