SIGMA

SIGMA platform drugs target enzymes associated with the transfer of electrons between molecules (oxidoreductases) and with protein folding (protein disulphide isomerases), with abnormal function of both sets of enzymes involved in the production of free radicals (unstable atoms that can damage cells) and mis-folded proteins (resulting in proteins with prion-like behaviour).

Free radical production, protein mis-folding and prionness are associated with a wide range of chronic degenerative diseases including retinal diseases, neuroinflammatory diseases and cancer.
